A growing share of product research now happens inside AI chat tools — someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Gemini what to buy instead of typing a search query and scrolling a results page. Whether your store can be recommended in that conversation depends on a small number of concrete, checkable things — not on ad spend, not on how the store looks, and not on anything you need to be technical to understand.
What actually determines this
Can the AI even reach your store? AI assistants use automated crawlers — software that visits your site and reads the page, similar to how Google's crawler works, but operated by OpenAI, Anthropic, Perplexity, and others. Some store platforms, security tools, or apps block these crawlers by default without anyone realizing it. If the crawler can't get in, nothing else here matters — the assistant simply doesn't know your store exists.
Can it actually read your product info, not just see it? A crawler needs your product name, price, and availability in a format it can parse reliably. If your store relies on effects or scripts to display product details, a crawler that doesn't run that code may see a mostly-empty page even though it looks fine to a shopper.
Is there a machine-readable summary of what your store sells? Behind the scenes, a small structured note (called "schema markup") tells an AI assistant exactly what a page is — a product, its price, whether it's in stock — instead of leaving it to guess from the page's wording. Most modern store themes and apps add some of this automatically, but not always all of it, and not always correctly.
What you can check yourself, today, with no technical knowledge
You don't need a developer to find out where your store stands. Paste your store's URL into a free scanner and it will check all of the above — crawler access, whether your product content is actually reachable, and whether the structured summary is present — and explain any problems in plain language, with a specific fix for each one.
What this doesn't mean
No tool, including this one, can guarantee an AI assistant will recommend a specific store — that decision depends on factors outside any single site's control, the same way no SEO tool ever guaranteed a #1 Google ranking. What's actually useful is knowing whether the things within your control are working: whether the AI can reach your store at all, and whether it can read what you sell once it's there.
